1. Step 1

   Separate certification from licensing

   Certification proves you completed a private training program. Licensing is a state, county, or city requirement. Before paying for a course, check your state board, local business-license office, zoning rules, and insurance requirements. Do not rely on a course sales page as legal advice.

2. Step 2

   Confirm the curriculum covers safety and DHA science

   A useful course should explain DHA development, Fitzpatrick skin type, contraindications, inhalation and mucous-membrane precautions, solution depth, guide color, first-rinse timing, and aftercare. If the curriculum only teaches stance and spray passes, it is not enough preparation for paid clients.

3. Step 3

   Decide whether online, live, or one-on-one training fits your launch

   Online training is efficient for fundamentals and business setup. Live classroom training helps with body positioning, overspray control, and immediate feedback. One-on-one training costs more but is strongest when you are launching fast, adding contour work, or building a premium mobile service.

4. Step 4

   Compare total cost, not just course price

   Record the course fee, certificate fee, kit or solution requirements, travel cost, model requirements, retake policy, and whether hands-on training is required before the certificate is issued. A cheap course can become expensive if it forces product purchases you would not otherwise choose.

5. Step 5

   Look for business operations training

   The best certification programs teach pricing, deposits, cancellation policy, client intake, consent forms, prep instructions, photo releases, reviews, and rebooking. Technique matters, but the business fails if bookings, money, client records, and follow-up are improvised.

6. Step 6

   Verify the credential can be shown to clients and insurers

   Ask what proof you receive, whether the certificate is publicly verifiable, whether the provider has instructor support after completion, and whether your insurance carrier recognizes the training. Save the certificate, curriculum outline, and purchase receipt with your business documents.

7. Step 7

   Set up your operating system before taking paid clients
